Sweet Pea Bush

Podalyria calyptrata (Sweet Pea Bush)

I have three of these in the garden. These are amazing shrubs from South Africa. Although a shrub, they can be trained into a tree. I have one that is shaped as a hedge and is over 6 ft tall. I've seen a dwarf variety but they are hard to find. They are drought tolerant as long as the soil is well drained and butterflies and bees just love them.
I've learned that the Podalyria calyptrata is from the bean family - interesting don't you think?
